Porsche EV Maintenance: Top Tips for Best Practice

Take Care When Charging the Battery

Opting to use a fast charger when you’re in a hurry is a great option, but it’s better to keep this to a minimum. Fast-charging your electric Porsche regularly can lead to a quicker degradation in the electric battery. Charging at either 120 or 240 volts is gentler and will help to prolong the battery’s lifespan. The occasional fast charge won’t do any harm, but this should be the exception, not the norm.

Regardless of the speed of charging, it’s a good idea to only charge the battery to around 80%. Conversely, you should also try to avoid your battery dropping below 20%. This is because both a fully charged and a relatively empty battery can speed up wear and tear.

Avoid Extreme Temperatures

Few cars like extreme temperatures, but it’s even more important when you have an electric vehicle as it can directly affect the range, as well as contribute to faster battery degradation. Shield your Porsche from extremely high and extremely low temperatures as much as you can to maximize performance and reduce the impact on the battery life.

Hot days are less of a problem than freezing weather, but care should still be taken to park in the shade and avoid charging in the heat of the day. The cold can affect electric cars more significantly, so it’s advisable to keep your car plugged into the wall charger. This helps to generate heat and allows the car to be preconditioned before use without negatively affecting the range.

Install Updates Rapidly

Porsche often issues Over-The-Air (OTA) updates remotely via a cellular connection. These updates can improve your EV’s performance, add new features, or address any technical issues.

You can configure your Porsche to receive the OTA updates automatically, which means that you don’t need to do a thing. Alternatively, you can opt to install them manually at a time that suits you. If you choose this latter option, it’s recommended to install the updates promptly to enjoy the optimum benefit.

Book Regular Services With Your Porsche Center

Although very little maintenance is required for an electric battery, it’s still advisable to get it checked out periodically. As part of a routine service that covers all of the usual things, a Porsche technician can check your battery’s capacity and performance. They can also look for any signs of corrosion in the charging port. Getting any minor problems dealt with quickly is more cost-effective, so a regular service should be an essential part of any maintenance plan.
