Understanding Porsche GT Models: What Sets Them Apart

The History of GT

First used in 1995 with the 356 A 1500 Carrera GT, the suffix stands for Gran Turismo, which loosely translates to ‘great ride.’ However, when referring to a Porsche model, these letters indicate a race car that’s approved for regular road driving. Models with a GTS suffix, first introduced in 1963, take performance even further, designating the most sporty and exclusive models of a series. Currently, Porsche includes GT and GTS models in almost every series of the latest lineup.

718 GTS 4.0

The 2025 718 model series includes the 718 Cayman and Boxster GTS 4.0 models, which trade the regular four-cylinder turbo engine with a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder to deliver powerful propulsion, direct responsiveness, and high revs. These models are also equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which lowers the body by 10 mm and continuously adjusts the damping force for each wheel according to your driving style and road conditions.

911 Carrera GTS and 911 GT3

The 911 Carrera GTS models also boast the standard PASM to enhance track performance and road agility. Other special features include newly designed front fascia with striking vertical aerodynamic details, including distinct adaptive air intake flaps. Standard rear-axle steering equally enhances day-to-day driving and track performance, making it easier to maneuver at low speeds and increasing stability at higher speeds.

The 911 GT3 can be had with either the seven-speed PDK transmission or the six-speed GT Sport manual transmission, both of which deliver fast gear changes and sporty short gear ratios. The lightweight construction concept extends to the folding bucket seats, which are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic with an elegant high gloss carbon fiber finish.

Macan GTS and Cayenne Turbo GT

If a sports car or sedan isn’t the right fit for your lifestyle, you can still enjoy the GT and GTS features in an SUV. The Macan GTS offers thrills for everyone on board, thanks to its mighty V8 engine, adaptive air suspension, PASM, and sporty interior.

The chassis and brake systems of the Cayenne Turbo GTS provide maximum on-road performance. GT-specific exterior and interior design elements give it an exclusive style, including GT Design Wheels and extensive Race-Tex features inside the sporty cabin.
